900 vehicles seized, 23,000 fined for flouting traffic rules

Jammu and Kashmir Police has seized over 900 vehicles and fined more than 23,000 others during the first two months of this year for flouting different traffic rules in various districts of the Valley.
Continuing its drive against traffic violators to ensure safe driving, police has seized 918 vehicles and charge-sheeted 23,692 others in various districts of Valley for different offences in January and February 2016, a police spokesman said.
He said the drive is going on in view of the public complaints and grievances with regard to overloading, intermittent or obstructive stops, misbehaviour, uncleanness of vehicles, non availability of services at late hours, violation of routes, over charging, playing audio-visual systems, negligent driving, non-reservation of seats for women or handicapped, un-regulated movement and wrong parking, resulting in traffic jam and accidents.
The spokesman said while 85 vehicles were seized and 2081 were fined in south Kashmir's Anantnag district, 121 vehicles were seized and 1013 were charge-sheeted in the neighbouring Pulwama.
92 vehicles were seized and 2363 were charge-sheeted in Kulgam, 69 vehicles were seized and 1551 were fined in Shopian district, the spokesman said.
He said in Central Kashmir's Srinagar district, 168 vehicles were seized and 1812 were fined, while 42 vehicles were seized and 1350 were fined in Budgam, the spokesman said.
He said 48 vehicles were seized and 1344 vehicles were fined in Leh and Kargil and in Ganderbal district 108 vehicles were seized and 2403 were charge-sheeted.
In north Kashmir s Baramulla district, 119 vehicles were seized and 4317 were fined, while three vehicles were seized and 372 were charge-sheeted in Kupwara.
He said 31 vehicles were seized and 1611 were fined in Handwara, while 32 vehicles were seized and 3476 were fined in Bandipora district.
