The Sector Skill Council (SSC) is mandated to develop a skills repository, standards, evaluation criterion and accreditation system for creating employability in the vital sector, which employs over 12 million workforce.
The body was set up as per the mandate of National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC), a public-private partnership.
The SSC would have representation from apparel, knitwear, SME, hosiery, fashion design, home furnishing, academia and domestic apparel industry.
The main task of the SSC would be to undertake skill gap study, set up national occupational standards, assessment and certification framework development, accreditation framework development, training and labour market information system.
