AAP, BJP turned Delhi into a most polluted city: Antony

Senior Congress leader A K Antony today accused the BJP and the AAP for turning the city into one of "the most polluted" in the country, saying now the people are afraid of coming to Delhi fearing health hazards.
Addressing a gathering of the Delhi South Indian Congress members in the run up to the April 23 MCD polls, he said ten years of "misrule" of the BJP in the municipal corporations, and the two years of the AAP have turned the city into one of "the most polluted" in the country.
"They do not know how to rule. Delhi has become the waste capital of the country. Now people are afraid to come to Delhi because of health hazards," he said at the Constitution Club, where party leaders from the southern states were also present.

He also charged the BJP with spreading regional diversity, saying the fundamental characters of the Constitution were "under threat" during its regime at the Centre.
"Delhi is mini India and people from all parts of the country live here. I think one of the most important issue in these (MCD) elections is safeguarding the Constitutional values that are under threat.
"An important campaign issue should be protecting the 'diversity' of the country," he said.

The leaders also passed a resolution slamming BJP leader Tarun Vijay's alleged "racial remarks".
Senior party leader Oscar Fernandes said that Congress' victory in the MCD polls will be "the beginning of the end" of the Aam Aadmi Party that was routed in Punjab and Goa.

Puducherry Chief Minister and former general secretary (incharge) of Delhi affairs, V Narayanasamy asked the South Indians living in the national capital to help Congress win the civic polls, so they could be considered for Assembly election tickets in future.
"There are around 30 lakh people from various south Indian states who live in Delhi. You should ensure victory of Congress in your area so that your claim for ticket in the Assembly election in future is considered seriously," he told the workers.
The gathering was also addressed by Delhi Congress chief Ajay Maken and Delhi incharge PC Chacko.
The polls for 272 wards of three civic bodies in the national capital will be held on April 23, in which nominees of Congress, BJP and AAP are the main contenders.
