The BJP-ruled North Delhi civic body came under fire from the Aam Aadmi Party and Congress, following the death of six people, including four children, in a building collapse.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who visited the site of collapse at Ashok Vihar and met the injured at a hospital, announced a magisterial enquiry into the incident.

"Municipal corporation has the responsibility of the safety of buildings... They will have to keep their system in order... They (MCDs) will have to strictly enforce their law," Kejriwal told reporters.

Delhi Congress president Ajay Maken slammed the North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC), while expressing shock and sorrow over the loss of life. "The BJP, which has been in power in the municipal corporations of Delhi for the past 12 years, is responsible for the tragedy. The Sawan Park accident clearly shows widespread corruption and inefficient functioning of the corporation."
Leader of Opposition in Assembly Vijender Gupta urged Lt Governor Anil Baijal for a judicial probe into the incident. "Only a comprehensive and independent inquiry would be able to reveal the real cause of the building collapse."
