A day ahead of Special Session of Delhi Assembly to discuss the issue of women security, BJP today charged AAP government with not fulfilling its pre-poll promises of taking measures to ensure safe environment for the women in the city.
Terming special session of the Assembly as waste of public money, BJP said the session would be used as a platform to blame the Central government and the Delhi police.
BJP MLAs plan to raise question on the status of poll promises made by AAP in connection with women rights and security in their election manifesto.
"Being in power for about six months, they have not fulfilled even a single poll promise. The Delhi government is only wasting public money by calling a special session, since the actual motive is to remain in news," Leader of Opposition in the Delhi Assembly Vijender Gupta said.
Last week, Delhi government decided to convene an Special Assembly session in the wake of the brutal murder of a 19-year-old girl by two brothers living in her neighbourhood in Anand Parbat area of west Delhi on July 16.
"In AAP's election manifesto, it has been clearly mentioned that if they come to power, it would take various measures like safe last mile connectivity, CCTVs in public places and buses, fast track courts, formation of Women Security Force, deployment of 10,000 Home Guards for women safety.
"The AAP government has completely forgotten its promises made during the elections. Crimes against women is on a rise in Delhi. Women are not feeling secure even in their homes in broad daylight and only the Delhi government is responsible for such an adversity," Gupta alleged.
He also accused Delhi government of being highly insensitive as women Helpline number 181, which was started after Nirbhaya incident, now lies in a moribund state.
"CM Arvind Kejriwal has, time and again, told the media that he has no faith on Delhi Police. If the government has no faith on the police, then how will it ensure the safety of the common masses?
"If the AAP government were committed to providing women security, it would have not wasted Rs 526 crore on self-promotion and instead, used the taxpayer's money to implement measures to ensure safety of women in the capital," Gupta said.
