With the party chief released from jail, AAP has now decided to stop its exercise of reaching out to people to explain its stand on Arvind Kejriwal's judicial custody, and instead focus on mohallah sabhas to seek the people's views on how to spend development funds.
At a meeting of senior leaders and MLAs at Kejriwal's Tilak Lane residence here today, it was decided that mohallah sabhas will be held in all 27 Assembly segments where the party nominees won, AAP leader Gopal Rai said.
"Arvind (Kejriwal) himself will undertake such sabhas in his New Delhi constituency and consult the people on how to spend his local area development funds," he said.
Among others, AAP MLAs Rajesh Garg (Rohini), Somnath Bharti (Malviya Nagar), Rakhi Birla (Mangolpuri), Saurabh Bharadhwaj (Greater Kailash) were present at the meeting.
"We have been asked to reach out to the people and consult them on how to use the MLA funds, and implement 'Swaraj' in its true sense," former Law Minister Bharti said.
In fact, some MLAs like Bharadwaj, who was a minister in the Kejriwal-led government, have started consulting people on how to start spending the money, said an AAP leader.
The party has also decided to suspended its campaign against former BJP president and newly elected minister in the Narendra Modi government Gadkari, who had slapped a defamation suit against Kejriwal.
The AAP leader was sent to Tihar Jail by a metropolitan court after he refused to furnish personal bond in the case.
"We will not be raking up the issue of Gadkari, as these sabhas will only focus on spending the MLA funds and issues of the people," said AAP MLA Bandana Kumari.
"Now that Arvind (Kejriwal) is out, we have decided to focus on mohallah sabhas and will reach out to the people accordingly. We are already fighting this battle in the court," said party leader Sanjay Singh.
After he was sent to judicial custody last week, the AAP had called a meeting of volunteers asking them to distribute a letter written by Kejriwal from Tihar Jail, explaining the reasons behind his arrest and launch a campaign against Gadkari and take the "fight" from Delhi to country.
It had even started distributing the letter written by Kejriwal in households across the national capital.
