The appeal followed the meeting between AAPSU, led by its President Kamta Lapung and chairman of the core committee on Chakma-Hajong issue Gumjum Haider, met Rijiju along with Joint Secretary (North-East) Satyendra Garg and Joint Secretary (Foreign affairs) Mukesh Mittal in New Delhi, a press release said here today.
The AAPSU team strongly opposed granting of citizenship to the refugees in the state and urged the Center to take the interests of the indigenous Arunachalees into consideration first, it said.
A team of MHA officials would visit the state soon and have a joint sitting with the state government and AAPSU, the release added.
