Accident: Arbaaz, Sohail's return awaited for issuing summons

"A policeman went to Sohails' residence to hand him over the summons, but he was not present at home. Initially, we had thought of handing over the summons at his residence, but later (we) decided to hand over the order personally. Since Sohail is not at home, our policeman returned," an officer said.

In Arbaaz's case, the police spoke to the actor over phone and when it was learnt that he was not at home, decided against going to his residence, the officer said, adding both the actors were currently out of town.

According to police, the mishap took place at 10:30 PM on July 1 when Sohail's driver Dhananjay Pimple (44), who was at the wheel of Sohail's Toyota Lexus, knocked down the woman, identified as Chandana Bala, while taking a U-turn at B J Road junction.

Neither Sohail nor Arbaaz were present in the vehicle, police said, adding that the victim was a pavement-dweller from the locality.

Meanwhile, fearing trouble, Pimple fled from the accident spot and surrendered before Bandra police station, which placed him under arrest and produced him before a court yesterday, which granted him bail on a surety of Rs 10,000.

"We would wait for 15 to 20 days for family members or relatives of the deceased to claim the body. In case nobody turns up, police would conduct the funeral," the officer said, adding that the actor-brothers will be allowed to attend her last rites if they wished so.

"The license of Pimple was returned. Pimple can drive the vehicle now. There were no CCTV cameras at the incident site," the officer added.

Preliminary report indicated that Pimple was not drunk at the time of mishap. However, the sample has been sent to forensic lab and the result is awaited, police said.
