A 26-year-old man, accused of abetment to suicide of his former girlfriend, surrendered before a court here today.
The accused, Ved Prakash, was booked after a 21-year-old BCom student allegedly committed suicide in north Delhi's Roop Nagar area last week.
The woman left behind a suicide note in which she alleged that Prakash was responsible for driving her to take the extreme step.
She had alleged in the note that Prakash had built physical relations with her on the pretext of getting married and had later moved to Patna and started avoiding her.
Teams were sent to Bokaro, Patna and other places where it was suspected that he could be hiding, a senior police officer said.
Police, however, had already got feelers that Prakash was thinking about surrendering in front of a court.
He surrendered today at Tis Hazari court and has been sent to nine-day police custody till April 28, said DCP(North) Jatin Narwal.
According to sources, police have started interrogation but he is proving to be a tough nut to crack.
Police might also be taking him to Patna and seizing his mobile phone and laptop to ascertain whether he had blackmailed the student.
The woman had committed suicide on April 8. She had also filed a rape case against Prakash in northwest delhi's Model Town police station.
