Asked about women's security, Delhi Police Commissioner Bhim Sain Bassi said the Home Minister appreciated Delhi Police's efforts in this connection and urged them to continue the good work with enthusiasm.
While appreciating the steps taken by Delhi Police for enhancing safety of women in Delhi, the Home Minister also stressed the need to firmly deal with crimes against women, a senior police official said.
Singh reached the police headquarters accompanied by Anil Goswami, Union Home Secretary, and other MHA officials at around noon and stayed there for nearly two hours.
He was received at PHQ by Bassi and a guard of honour was presented.
Singh visited Central Police Control Room (CPCR) and Integrated Command Control Co-ordination and Communication Centre (C4i). Special Commissioner (Operations) S Sundari Nanda explained the functioning of the CPCR and the Women Helpline Desk (1091) to him.
Bassi apprised the Home Minister about the organizational structure, law and order situation, crime scenario and functioning of important units. He also outlined the community policing initiatives and special measures taken for women's safety and vulnerable sections of the society.
He mentioned about the "spectacular success" of recently- launched mobile and web application for lodging 'Lost Report' and of mobile phone-based traffic assistance application.
A special mention was also made of certain issues pending consideration of the government of India. These include Safe City Project, creation of additional posts, incentives for policemen posted in specialized high-risk units and additional requirement of funds for vehicles and police housing.
Singh also paid homage to the slain Delhi Police constable Manna Ram who was mowed down by a car in West Delhi.
In fact it was Singh who asked all the officers present to observe a minute's silence in memory of Mana Ram, said Bassi.
