In a memorandum sent to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Railway Minister D V Sadananda Gowda on Friday, MBJS convener Amol Anant Pawar said the project, which will provide better connectivity in three districts of Thane, Pune and Ahmednagar, is on paper for last 25 years.
This rail route will save time of the passengers, increase the state's income as well as decrease the accidents on the downhill of Malshej Ghat, Pawar said in the letter.
Pawar told PTI that as per the information gathered by him during his follow-up on the mega project, on this 250 km rail route, there will be 25-26 stations. This route is adjacent to the National Highway 222.
