Aiadmk functionary suicide bid foiled

An AIADMK functionary at Udumalpet in nearby Tirupur district today attempted to commit suicide by setting himself ablaze as he was upset over a banner of chief minister Jayalalithaa being torn allegedly by DMDK workers, recently, police said.
Thangavel, AIADMK area secretary in Udumalpet, suddenly poured kerosene on his body and lit a match stick, near the party office in full public view.
However, even before the fire spread over his body, he was overpowered by the public and the fire doused. He was rushed to the government hospital there.
Later, considering his condition, Thangavel was admitted to the Government hospital here, police said.
