The opposition AIADMK today hailed the steps initiated by Puducherry Lt Governor Kiran Bedi in realising accumulated power tariff arrears by adopting "name and shame" approach.
The AIADMK had been urging the government to collect dues from various categories of power consumers and also those owing taxes to municipalities, commercial tax department and excise department, AIADMK leader A Anbalagan told reporters here.
He further said the government should waive the interest and penal interest levied for outstandings and collect the actual amount liable for payment.
Anbalagan also alleged the Electricity department frittered away funds on purchase of power meters made in Chennai, which involved heavy investment.
