However, the TNCC chief claimed he was misunderstood.
"Don't delay even for a second, seek apology," AIADMK mouthpiece 'Dr Namadhu MGR' said today and slammed Elangovan for using 'unacceptable' words in association with DMK chief Karunanidhi against the August 7 meeting.
Angry protests, including burning Elangovan's effigies meanwhile continued across the state, seeking his immediate arrest. The agitations led to traffic pile-up in some areas.
BJP Tamil Nadu unit president Tamilisai Soundararajan led a demonstration here and similar protests were held in several places in the State.
"Elangovan has used uncivilised words, he must take it back, Madam Gandhi must take action against him," she said, adding appropriate legal action would be taken against him.
Tirunelveli AIADMK Mayor Bhuvaneswari climbed the hand rails of Tamirabharani River bridge with her party workers. Also partymen attempted to block the Congress office and raised slogans.
In Erode, AIADMK party workers tried to march towards Elangovan's residence, but were stopped by the police.
Elangovan, meanwhile, today said he was misunderstood.
"What can I do? They have misunderstood what I have said, my intention is not to humiliate them," he told reporters here as a verbal duel unfolded after a reporter posed a question.
Elangovan had made the controversial remarks here on August 14 while participating in a protest organised by his party, seeking a liquor ban in Tamil Nadu.
