The government-owned Air India has received 13 complaints from its customers in the last seven months about the meals served on its flight, the Parliament was informed today.
However, the national carrier has not compromised with the quality of food catered to the onboard flyers, Minister of State for Civil Aviation Mahesh Sharma said in Rajya Sabha.
"Air India does not serve poor quality of meals on any of its flight. The meals uplifted on Air India flights are procured from reputed flight kitchens, who are supplying meals to various other international and domestic airlines," Sharma said.
However, in the period between January and July (till date), 13 complaints regarding food served on Air India flights have been received by the Ministry of Civil Aviation, Sharma said, adding, Air India has taken action against the caterer as per terms of contract.
Recently, in two separate reports, Air India was accused of serving contaminated food on two of its flights. The airline, however, vehemently denied the allegations.
"Air India would like to reassure its passengers and the media that it takes the utmost care in the choice, quality, hygiene and safety in its service of meals onboard all its flights," Air India had said in response to the reports.
The caterers are selected after a stringent technical evaluation in terms of their infrastructure, capabilities, hygiene and safety certifications and other regulatory clearances, it had said.
