AirAsia receives Air Operating Permit from DGCA

Malaysia-based low cost airliner AirAsia is all set to begin operations in the country as the Directorate General of Civil Aviation has awarded the Air Operating Permit.
AirAsia India is a joint venture between Tata Sons Ltd, Telestra Tradeplace and AirAsia.
"It is a proud day for me and all of us at the AirAsia as AirAsia India takes its first step towards changing Indian aviation forever.
"We thank the Indian government for putting people first and not letting vested interests prevail. India will be a huge addition in realising our promise of Now Everyone can Fly," AirAsia Group Chief Executive Officer Tony Fernandes said in a statement.

AirAsia submitted an application to the Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) in February 2013 and received formal approval in April 2013 followed by the No Objection Certificate in September 2013, the company statement said.
"Our priority will be to enable as many Indians as possible to travel by air, emphasising on a focused and disciplined cost structure and keeping our fares low as well," AirAsia India Chief Executive Officer Mittu Chandilya said.
"...I believe once we start our new fare structure, every Indian's desire to fly will be a reality. AirAsia India is expected to announce its first line up of domestic routes in coming weeks...," Chandilya said.

AirAsia India currently serves 87 destinations. It has over 150 aircrafts and has carried over 200 million guests, the statement added.
