Alipurduar College Acting Principal tenders resignation,

The acting Principal of Alipurduar College today tendered his resignation, disturbed over the alleged ransacking of his chamber by agitating union students who demanded extension of admission date.
The Principal Sailen Debnath alleged of being mentally disturbed after the union leaders came to his office to submit a memorandum about extension of admission date yesterday and ransacked the chamber when he expressed helplessness.
He had tried to reason with the agitating students that online admission dates are fixed by the state and the UGC and the college could do nothing about it but they didnot listen, Debnath claimed.
Eyewitnesses said the ransack went on for about 15 minutes.

Shortly after the submission of the letter earlier in the day, the college governing body in a meeting decided not to accept Debnath's letter.
A governing body spokesman said the North Bengal University, under which the college is affiliated, formed a probe committee today to investigate the incident and Debnath has been asked to continue till the reports were submitted and the issue addressed.

West Bengal Education minister Partha Chatterjee, on a visit to Siliguri, also asked the acting Principal to take back his resignation letter.
The admission date had expired on September 22.
The college union is controlled by Trinamul Congress Chattra Parishad.

Bablu Kar, the President of Alipurduar district committee of the TMCP, however said, "SFI leaders along with outsiders are involved in the incident. The Marxists are blaming us without any reason. We demand that those involved in the ransack must be punished."
The college has around 3,5000 students.
The SFI blamed the TMCP for the incident.
