All info about assessment of students will be shared with

The Council for Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) today said it was discussing the modalities of implementation of the process of an assessment of students and all info will be shared with the schools well before implementation of the proposed assessment.
CISCE chief executive and secretary Gerry Arathoon today said in a signed statement, "it has been clearly stated in my letter to all Heads of Schools on July 4... That the Council is currently discussing the modalities of implementation of the process of assessment, which is the future initiative of the Council based on the curriculum.
"All information and material will be shared with the schools well before the implementation of the proposed assessment" (for students in class 5 and 8), Arathoon said.

Arathoon told PTI when contacted, "The assessment will be held as and when the modalities are finalised but I would request you to go through my entire statement."
"This assessment is not a Board examination and promotion to the next class is not dependent on the outcome," he reiterated.
Talking about the curriculum, he said as "The conduct of examinations at the Class X and Class XII level is the primary activity of the Council, besides framing of the Regulations and Syllabuses for these levels, to facilitate a steady progression of learning from the lower level to the examination classes, it was necessary to frame a curriculum at the lower level as well."

The CISCE said all affiliated schools are required to implement the curriculum from Pre-school to Class VIII from the academic year 2018-2019.

"As it is common knowledge that a vast majority of our schools do not have any in-house curriculum to follow in their primary and upper primary classes and are largely guided only by the textbooks recommended in various classes at the elementary stage," the CISCE put in place a curriculum that provides a basic minimum standard that will cater not only to the schools that do not have a curriculum but to all schools affiliated to the Council, he said.

"However, it may be complemented by additional content methodologies currently being practiced by some schools," he said.
The statement followed a special meeting with the heads of affiliated schools, West Bengal, called by the Council in Kolkata on July 31.
The meeting had been convened in view of different media reports on the issue of assessment of children.
With regard to textbooks at the ICSE and ISC level, Arathoon said "the Council will not prescribe any textbooks for Preschool to Class VIII. The schools are free to select/use appropriate teaching, learning materials and aids of their choice."
With the introduction of the curriculum, the Council has also initiated the process of training of subject teachers as Master Trainers, he said.
