All neighbouring states should supply water to Delhi: Khattar

Amid the long-standing feud between Delhi and Haryana over release of water, Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar today said it is the "responsibility" of all the neighbouring states to supply drinking water to the national capital.
Speaking at a two-day 'Sinchan-Chintan' camp organized by Irrigation and Water Resources Department here, Khattar said, "People from all parts of the country live in the national capital, therefore, all neighboring states should supply water to Delhi."
Describing water as one of the major natural resources, the Chief Minister said that diversification of crops was necessary for conservation of water.
An official release quoting him said that when Haryana came into being in 1966, water used to be a very important issue.

Several agitations were carried out for conservation of water due to its scarcity, Khattar said.
"With a view to conserve water in the changing scenario, we would have to change the methods of irrigation," he said.
"We would have to adopt drip irrigation instead of flood irrigation. Information technology should be used to irrigate crops keeping in view the weather," Khattar added.
The Chief Minister said that Hansi-Butana Canal was constructed to supply water to Haryana, but the issue is in the court.
