Senior Congress leader Amarinder Singh today sought blessings from the Akal Takht, the highest temporal seat of Sikhs, for the newly constituted HSGPC and urged the body to revoke the ex-communication of three prominent Haryana Sikh leaders.
"Sri Akal Takht Sahib is too high an institution to be seen as political and it must remain above politics," he said in a statement.
Amarinder said, "no limits were violated by constituting the Haryana SGPC as it was very much the demand of Sikhs in the state."
The Amritsar MP said preventing the formation of a separate body does not behove well for the Akal Takht.
He, however, hailed the Akal Takht's intervention in the Sikh congregation at Amritsar and Karnal by directing the Sikh leaders to call them off.
"Like it (Akal Takht) stood up to the occasion in the interest of the community, it is widely hoped that it will not be seen to be influenced by anyone," he said.
The Akal Takht had yesterday restrained from functioning the newly elected office bearers of Haryana Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee.
On July 16, it had excommunicated Haryana finance minister Harmohinder Singh Chattha, Jagdish Singh Jhinda and Didar Singh Nalwi from the Sikh community for assisting formation of separate SGPC.
