Higher use of fly ash in making of cement, reducing the use of limestone and Co2 emission, have earned a prestigious position for Ambuja Cements in Carbon Disclosure Leadership Index (CDLI).
In the recent "India 200 Climate Change Report 2014", published by global Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP), Ambuja Cements has achieved a score of 92 (out of 100) and secured a rank of 10 across sectors in the CDLI, the company said in a statement.
The report appreciates Ambuja's practice of making over 91 per cent of its product being fly ash blended whereas the industry average is 67 per cent. This helps conserving natural limestone and also helps reduce CO2 emissions due to its burning, Ambuja Cement said.
"This means a great deal to us. It is evident that the best practices followed by Ambuja will set a trend within the sector and aligned with our twin aim to conserve natural resources and reduce CO2 emissions," said Ambuja's MD and CEO Ajay Kapur.
Under the materials sector, Ambuja leads cement companies followed by ACC (ranked 89), Shree Cements (87) and Ultratech (77); and only second to Tata Steels in this sector.
A large number of companies have qualified to be included in CDLI in 2014 compared to last year.
