Senior IPS officer Amitabh Thakur has written to the Ministry of Home Affairs seeking change of cadre from Uttar Pradesh to any other state alleging "threat of life" from Samajwadi Party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav.
"I and my wife, activist Nutan Thakur, have direct threat to our lives from SP Supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav, who had threatened me over phone, and UP mining minister Gayatri Prajapati, against whom Nutan had presented a complaint before the Lokayukta," Amitabh said in his representation to the Home Ministry.
Thakur said he also apprehended harassment by the state authority for seeking inter-state cadre change under Rule 5(2) of the IPS Cadre Rules.
Thakur, who is currently posted as IG, Rule and Manuals, said "These people are extremely powerful" and hence it is necessary to change his cadre from UP.
Last year, Thakur had registered an FIR against SP supremo Mulayam for allegedly threatening him over phone.
