The Aligarh Muslim University Teachers Association has come down heavily on Akhilesh Yadav government for its handling of Muzaffarnagar riot victims saying its approach on the issue was "shocking" and "inhuman".
"Principal Home Secretary Anil Gupta's statement that no one can die of cold in the relief camps is not only a blatant lie but has rubbed salt on the wounds of thousands of riot victims who are presently languishing in relief camps," AMUTA secretary Aftab Alam said at a special meeting called by the association yesterday.
The AMU teachers described Uttar Pradesh government's approach on the issue as "shocking" and "inhuman".
The association has also viewed with grave concern the reported "forceful eviction" of riot victims from relief camps during the past few days and warned the government of "grave consequences" if the situation is not rectified.
Alam said that if the government does not immediately make amends then the AMUTA would launch an agitation against it.
The association has also demanded that SP supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav should apologise to the nation for his "irresponsible" statements on the Muzaffarnagar riots.
The association has demanded that the Congress led UPA government instead of playing politics should directly intervene in the matter and discharge its constitutional responsibility toward the people of the state in view of the state government's alleged failure to fulfil its responsibility.
