Anand Pal case: HC asks CBI about status of Raj govt probe

The Rajasthan High Court today asked the CBI to apprise it by November 15 about the status of the state government's recommendation for a probe by the agency in the gangster Anand Pal Singh's encounter case.
Earlier, the court had issued notice to the state government after Singh's wife Raj Kanwar petitioned it seeking an investigation into the encounter of her husband.
Submitting a reply in the matter, state counsel Shiv Kumar Vyas told the court that the government has already written to the Centre recommending a CBI probe.
Singh, 47, who was wanted in several cases including murder, was shot dead on June 24. His body was kept in a freezer for nearly three weeks as his family demanded a CBI probe.

"Two FIRs had been registered in the case -- one at the Ratangarh police station in Churu district and the other at the Jaswantgarh police station in Nagaur district. The details of investigation in both of these FIRs have been asked to be handed over to the CBI by the state government," said Vyas.
On this, Justice Sandeep Mehta asked Special Public Prosecutor for CBI Sachin Acharya about the progress in the matter. Acharya sought some time to take instructions and file his reply.
Admitting his plea, the judge directed him to apprise the court about by November 15.
"The CBI counsel shall apprise the court regarding the progress made on the request made by the state government to get the matter investigated by the CBI," a copy of the court order uploaded on its website said.
