Addressing a press conference, Rao said the government is not ready to let tainted Vice Chancellors have a free run and is planning to bring them to book soon.
In an effort to take immediate action against those vice-chancellors facing charges of corruption, the government will make some major amendments in the AP Universities Act, 1991, he said.
On selection of Vice-Chancellors of four universities in the state- Vikrama Simhapuri University, Nellore, Sri Krishnadevaraya University, Anantapur, Rayalaseema University, Kurnool and Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, Kakinada, Rao said the government will form a search committee to recommend names as term of current vice-chancellors at these four universities will end this year in November.
On enhancing the quality of education, Rao said with the number of private universities set to increase in the state, it is time for the government universities to gear up for competition.
On conducting entrance exams post bifurcation of the erstwhile Andhra Pradesh, he said as per the 10th Schedule of the AP Reorganisation Act, 2014, it is mandated for both states (AP and Telangana) to function as a single entity for at least 10 years to conduct some of the common entrance tests for various courses.
