AP: Security for women employees in Cyberabad to step up

With a focus on improving the security and safety of women in the Cyberabad IT corridor here, an electronic surveillance system will be enhanced with installation of another 150 CCTV cameras in addition to the existing 47.
This move is a part of the five-point strategy for revamping security in the IT corridor of Cyberabad, wherein different departments have initiated efforts for the safety of women employees, particularly software professionals.
According to Cyberabad Police Commissioner C V Anand, increasing the security measures in the IT corridor was long awaited and after the abduction and gangrape of a software employee by two cab-drivers in October this year, the government directed to step up security in the IT corridor.

"We are planning to review the entire IT corridor security as the present arrangement was planned around five years ago, even though it has expanded much beyond now. It requires revamping," the Cyberabad Police Chief told PTI.
Following directions from Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy, a five-point security formula has been formulated by police in association with various departments.
The measures include improving the public transportation system with 40 buses already launched in Cyberabad.

Continuing with the efforts, police will regulate private transport (cabs and autos), enhance security with increased patrolling in the IT corridor and Outer Ring Round (ORR), besides manning toll gates, Anand said.

Police, with the help of Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (APIIC), will soon take up installation of 150 more surveillance cameras at a cost of Rs 5 crore as part of five-point strategy.
These cameras will be monitored by a 'Central Command and Control Room', he said, adding, "We have now started the process of preparing tender documents in this regard.
