The state government has decided to withdraw the permission it had granted to the Goa University (GU) for relaxing certain criteria while appointing lecturers, the Legislative Assembly was told today.
The permission will be withdrawn after it came to light that the two important criteria for appointment were relaxed in violation to the terms of the permission.
"The government will withdraw the permission granted to the Goa University to relax the criteria (for appointing lecturers) of having (knowledge of) Konkani language essential and domicile of 15 years," Parrikar said.
The issue was raised in the House during Zero Hour by Congress legislator Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco who said the varsity had advertised several vacancies relaxing these two important conditions.
Agriculture Minister Vijai Sardesai too agreed with Lourenco on the issue that the GU should not be allowed to waive these criteria, which are in place to ensure that locals do not deprived of the job opportunity.
Parrikar, who holds Education portfolio, said the government had agreed to relax the two criteria with the condition that the GU should apply this relaxation only if local eligible candidates are not available.
"We issued them another clarification that if there is no local eligible candidate available, then the Goa University should take clearance on case-to-case basis with the state government to relax these conditions.
"They (GU) have violated the permission granted to them. I will ask the Education Director to withdraw the permission. They will have to ask for permission again," the CM said.
