A cache of arms was recovered from a pond in Meghalaya's West Garo Hills district, police said.
The cache is suspected to be dumped in the pond by a gang of inter-state dacoits, an officer said.
Acting on a tip-off by fishermen, we recovered three country-made guns and camouflage uniforms from the pond in Bholarbitha village under Phulbari police station limits on Friday evening, he said.
A gang of dacoits operating between Meghalaya and Assam were recently apprehended, police sources said.
"We suspect the recovered weapons belonged to this gang. We have handed over the suspects to Assam police as many cases are pending against them in that state," West Garo Hills SP MGR Kumar said.
The SP said more members of the gang are at large and hoped to nab them soon.
