Army Chief General Bikram Singh will discuss issues of security and defence engagements with Singapore officials, including the defence minister, during his three-day visit which began today.
His visit is likely to cement bilateral relations and give further impetus to the multifarious defence cooperation activities between the two nations, any army spokesperson said.
"General Singh's discussion with Singapore authorities will cover a range of fields including security and defence engagement. In addition, he will be visiting important Singapore Armed Forces training establishments," he said.
The visit assumes special significance in the light of enhanced defence cooperation between the two countries and their growing relationship, the spokesperson said, adding that both sides have shown a desire to work towards building a mutually beneficial defence cooperation.
The military-to-military cooperation between the two countries encompasses joint artillery and mechanised forces exercises held in India, exchange of visits, training courses and attendance in various training events, seminars and conferences, he said.
The last Army chief-level visit to Singapore was in July 2010. The Singapore Chief of Army had also visited India in March 2013.
