Army conducts major defense exercise in Rajasthan

The Army today conducted a major exercise, 'Akraman-II', in Rajasthan to test a new generation of weaponry and platforms employed in the desert region, with providing 'real time battle and situational awareness' to its commanders.
The exercise was conducted by the Bhatinda-based Chetak Corps, a part of South Western Command.
More than 300 Combat Vehicles, Main Battle Tanks, Long Range Arty Guns and about 10,000 troops are participating in the exercise, an official release said here.
The exercise also test the capabilities of Indian Air Force in launching deep insertion of airborne and helicopter- borne army units.
'Akraman-II' envisages orchestration of an integrated battle field scenario in network centric environment with integration of reconnaissance, surveillance and electronic warfare and communication assets to provide real time battle and situational awareness to commanders, the release said.
Lieutenant General Arun Kumar Sahni, Army Commander, Sapta Shakti Command along with other senior officers will witness the final stages of this exercise in the coming days, the release said.
