Army today donated a variety of equipment meant for the rehabilitation of specially-abled children here to mark the 66th Army Day.
The equipment was handed over to a rehabilitation centre "Chotay Taray Foundation" for the welfare of the children with special needs and as a "goodwill gesture" by the force.
The items, including wheelchairs, furniture, sports kits, stationery, bags and gas heaters, were handed over to the foundation on behalf of the General Officer Commanding, Chinar Corps, General Gurmeet Singh.
Army said these children were very special for the force and it was "at the centre of the heart of the Corps Commander" to help these children and youth.
The force said it does not want these children to lag behind in fulfilling their dreams.
"Army wants to take up such programmes unconditionally and genuinely help in the fulfilment of the aspirations of such children and youth," it said.
The foundation has been working as a day-care centre for the rehabilitation of such children and at present 65 differently-abled children, belonging to the age-group three years to 20 years, are enrolled in the centre.
The centre imparts speech and behavioural therapy to the children and involves them in various vocational activities.
