On Tuesday, at around 6 PM, an SOS call was received by Army Flood Relief Control Room at Devlali from Nashik District Collector Radhakrishnan B for assistance required to rescue three persons stranded on an island inside river Kadva, a defence statement issued here today said.
"As soon as the alert was received, a flood relief column of Indian Army located at Devlali was launched immediately, which reached the location at around 9.30 PM. Well-led flood relief operations which include quick mobilisation, detailed reconnaissance and planning on site, coordination with civil administration and expeditious rescue effort, resulted in saving lives of three persons," it said.
Initial reconnaissance, co-ordination with civil administration and locals was carried out and a rescue team was formed which involved people from the Army and civil administration.
"The rescue team physically moved across the water channel with help of a rope and human chain to establish a crossing across to the first island by 11.30 PM. Meanwhile, the flow from Phalkhed dam was controlled by civil authorities to regulate the water current," the release said.
The rescue operation lasted for about 10 hours which saved the lives of three villagers, it added.
