The Madras High Court today issued bailable arrest warrants against two persons, including the state's deputy registrar of Co-operative Societies (Housing), for disobeying its directive to appear before it with regard to settling gratuity dues of a retired government official.
As per the order, the Superintendent of Police of Tanjore district should effect the arrest warrant and produce them before the court on July 20.
Justice S Vaidyanathan passed the order on a petition filed by N Ragunathana, (67) of Tanjore.
Ragunathan, an employee of Thanjavur City Corporation Employees Co-op Housing Society, retired from service on January 31, 2006. So far, his gratuity was not settled.
In 2012, he had filed a case before the Assistant Commissioner of Labour, Tiruchirapalli, seeking gratuity benefits. The ACL on December 7, 2012 ordered Rs 2.38 lakh gratuity with 10 per cent interest from his date of retirement.
Aggrieved over it, Thanjavur City Corporation Employees Co-op Housing Society preferred an appeal before the Joint Commissioner of Labour who confirmed the order on December 16 2014. But the order was not obeyed and hence Raghunathan moved court.
On June 19, the court had directed the Deputy Registrar and President to appear before it on the next hearing today. However, both failed to turn up.
Following this, the court ordered issue of bailable warrant against them.
