Patrolling has been intensified in sensitive areas here and other parts of Telangana and people asked not to give credence to rumours in the wake of a home ministry advisory following decisions related to Jammu and Kashmir to "pre-empt" and "prevent any breach of security".

Police here said they are on general alert and that they were taking all precautionary measures.

Patrolling has been intensified in sensitive areas under Hyderabad, Cyberabad and Rachakonda Police Commissionerates, which also cover Hyderabad city and parts of surrounding districts.

They said police are in regular touch with community elders and youth and added prohibitory orders have not been imposed as the situation was "absolutely normal".

"We asked all to be watchful and take all precautions. The situation is peaceful(in Telangana) and so far there has been no issue anywhere and no untoward incident has been reported.

We are keeping a watch over the situation and if anything is there, we are prepared for it," Telangana Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) Jitender told PTI.

Rallies and processions are not permitted and those who wish to do so have to take permission from senior officers, he said.

"As far as Hyderabad city is concerned, the situatuion is peaceful. As a precautionary measure, all senior officers of different wings are moving in the areas," Hyderabad Police Commissioner Anjani Kumar, who is camping at Old City and monitoring the situation, said.

The social media is being monitored, he said.

Anjani Kumar also deputed senior officers to all five zones of Hyderabad city and asked staff on regular patrolling duty to also cover all areas.

The government on Monday abolished Article 370 that gave special status to Jammu and Kashmir and moved a separate bill to bifurcate the state into two separate union territories of Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh, amid massive opposition uproar in Rajya Sabha.
