The Arunachal Pradesh government's sudden decision to remove AAPBOCWWB chairman Jalley Sonam has irked the labour community of the state who vowed to fight "tooth and nail" against the arbitrary action.
The government, in a notification yesterday, appointed Nyamar Karbak to the post much before completion of the tenure of the incumbent chairman, which was to end on January 2015.
The labourers under the aegis of All Arunachal Pradesh Workers' Union (AAPWU) today alleged political conspiracy engineered by Lok Sabha MP Takam Sanjoy in removing Sonam who was set to contest the forthcoming parliamentary elections.
"We condemn the state government for the manner in which the new chairman of All Arunachal Pradesh Building and Other Constructions Workers Welfare Board (AAPBOCWWB) was appointed overriding the established rules and guidelines," AAPWU working president Changma Tajo said in a press conference here today.
"We will not tolerate such negative attitude from the government as Sonam had not resigned from the post nor done anything against the government," he said.
While urging the government to review the decision, the union termed the move as unethical and said it would decide its future course of action soon.
Sonam, who is also the president of AAPWU, said "It is the decision of the government to appoint or remove someone... But I was not told before the move nor I have resigned from the post... I will continue to work for the working class."
Stating he was targeted with vested political interests, Sonam said the move would send a message to the people against the Congress.
Meanwhile, the AAPWU today announced to field Sonam as a candidate from Arunachal West constituency, but didn't disclose the party from which he would contest.
