Assam produces 261 MW electricity against its power requirement of 1400 MW approximately, state Power Minister Rockybul Hussain said today.
To meet the shortfall, the state purchases 636 MW from the Central Sector Generating Station (CSGS) in the north east region and 211 MW from the CSGS in the eastern region, Hussain said in reply to a query in the Assembly.
Another 150 MW is procurred through other arrangements of bilateral trading, from neighbouring Meghalaya, Indian Energy Exchange, Indian Oil Corporation, Digboi and Champawati Hydro Power Station, the minister said.
The N-E CSGS sources include NEEPCO projects and the Eastern Region CSGS sources are the NTPC projects in West Bengal, Bihar and Orissa, he added.
For electrification of remote and inaccesible habitations in the state, Hussain said the government has taken up various schemes under the annual plans, including solar light.
