Assam's territorial integrity won't be compromised: Sonowal

Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal today said the state's territorial integrity would not be compromised at any cost when a final peace accord would be signed by the central government with Naga insurgent group NSCN-IM.
A framework agreement was signed on August 3, 2015, by NSCN-IM general secretary Thuingaleng Muivah and the government's interlocutor R N Ravi, in presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, to bring a final settlement.
The agreement came after over 80 rounds of negotiations spanning 18 years, with the first breakthrough in 1997 when the ceasefire agreement was sealed after decades of insurgency in Nagaland.
The territorial integrity of Assam will not, at any cost, be compromised in view of Naga framework and the central government is committed to maintaining peace and harmony in the northeast region, Sonowal told reporters after meeting Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh here.

Assam's map would not be tampered with and the dignity of the people of the state would be upheld, he said.
During today's meeting, the chief minister apprised the home minister about the progress in updating of the National Register of Citizens (NRC) in the state.
Sonowal said genuine Indian citizens do not need to worry and the state government is committed to preparing a flawless draft NRC.
