Assam to strengthen border outposts

Assam government today decided to strengthen the existing border outposts (BOPs) along inter- state boundary with a fund of Rs 17 crore to be made available for the purpose during the current financial year.
In a high-level meeting of the state Home Department, chaired by Chief Secretary Jitesh Khosla, it was decided to improve the infrastructure and provide equipment to improve effectiveness of the security forces located along the borders with other North Eastern states.
It was also decided to repair and reconstruct the existing 81 BOPs along the inter-state borders along with provisions of additional physical infrastructure such as barracks, security fencing, bunkers, water and sanitation facilities, an official release said.
The works will be executed by Assam Police Housing Corporation Limited under the supervision of the Home Department.
Modernisation of these BOPs will also be done by induction of new technology and equipment for which additional funds would be made available.
The meetings also decided to examine proposals for creation of new BOPs along the Inter State border for which 32 proposals have been received so far from the various districts, the release added.
Improvement of road communication between the BOPs in the state will also be taken up along the other works and it will be implemented by the forest department with the support of the state Public Works Department.
