Association demands admission to students

Puducherry Parents and Students Welfare Association today expressed dismay over the government's silence on admission of students, who had taken up NEET 2016.
The seven privately-run medical colleges and three dental colleges were dragging the issue of admitting students, Association leaders V Bala and M Narayanasamy told reporters here.
As many as 717 seats in medical colleges and 225 seats in dental colleges should be filled on the basis of merit scored by students in the NEET exam, they said.
They said the Association proposed organising a bandh in the Union Territory on September 3, to register its protest against the 'unhelpful attitude of the government and irresponsive stance of the private managements on the issue of admission.

Bala said, the Kerala, Karnataka and Maharashtra governments had come out with a clear stand on the admission and also on fees to be remitted by the candidates to the colleges in their respective states.
They also took strong exception to the Puducherry Health Minister Malladi Krishna Rao making a request to the managements of medical colleges to at least earmark ten percent of the seats in their institutions to students of Puducherry.
