Attempt to smuggle out Nasser's rare collections foiled

An attempt to smuggle out the personal camera, rare texts of the speeches and pictures of late Egyptian president and a pivotal figure in the NAM movement Gamal Abdel Nasser has been foiled, official media reported today.
Egyptian authorities intercepted the camera and speeches inside two parcels at a post office before they could be smuggled to the United Arab Emirates, the official MENA news agency quoted Antiquities Minister Mohamed Ibrahim as saying.
The two parcels were seized and the public prosecutor was notified to take legal action, the minister added.
There were also 127 rare pictures of the pan-Arabist firebrand, who rose to power after the 1952 military revolution against King Farouk, with some Arab leaders, wedding and private parties invitations.

Nasser, who died at the age of 52 in 1970, is known for his nationalist policies and version of pan-Arabism, also referred to as Nasserism.
As the second President of Egypt, he heralded a new period of modernisation and socialist reform in Egypt and won a great following in the Arab World during the 1950s and 1960s.
The seized objects include the late president's personal camera, a set of original text speeches delivered during the era of Egyptian-Syrian unity and army decorations, said head of the Central Administration for Antiquities Unit at Egyptian Ports Hassan Rassmy.
Nasser led Egypt in two wars against Israel.
