The city witnessed violent clashes last night after the "remnants of a structure" reportedly surfaced during digging for construction of a building two days back.
Members of both the communities claimed that the structure was linked to their respective faiths.
"Anybody, who vitiates peace will be crushed. This is the clear message of the state government," Chouhan said at a function in the state capital.
"Peace, tranquility and harmony should prevail. The government cares about the rights and interests of every section of the society.
"This is the month of Ramzan. It is holy. Festivals should be celebrated in peace and without hassle. Our government will fully cooperate," he added.
Chouhan said peace in the state was the top priority of the state government.
Around a dozen vehicles were torched during the clashes which left some people, including policemen injured. The police had to lob teargas shells and fire gunshots in the air to bring the situation under control.
