Singh, the son of Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh and a first-time MLA, said the people who elect the MLAs expect them to raise issues concerning the public in the Legislative Assembly.
His remarks came in response to the mayhem that was witnessed on the opening day of the newly-elected Uttar Pradesh Assembly where opposition members, including Samajwadi Party MLAs, flung paper balls at Governor Ram Nair during his address.
"Our behaviour must commensurate with their expectations. It is the behaviour which brings a bad name to the entire institution only because of the bad actions of a handful of people. Gradually, people may lose their faith and confidence in the legislators," the 38-year-old Noida MLA told PTI.
Singh, whose father is a former UP chief minister, made his debut in the House on May 15.
"I did not enter the UP Vidhan Bhawan nor did I watch the proceedings of the Assembly from the visitor's gallery (when my father was the CM)," he told PTI.
"Once you enter the precincts of the Legislative Assembly, your responsibilities increase significantly. As you listen to discussions on a variety of issues and participate in various proceedings, you get to learn new things," he added.
