Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal today said waterlogged areas of Malwa region would witness holistic development with modern amenities.
He said that as per the blueprint planned in this regard, the Punjab Government would leave no stone unturned for the overall development of waterlogged areas.
He announced that a new mechanism is also being introduced for implementation of government's vision in these areas in letter and spirit.
Taking stock of the situation of waterlogged areas, Badal said that more than 250 waterlogged affected villages had to pay special attention and they are taking revolutionary steps for development, an official release quoted him as saying.
He said that they had decided to introduce a special mechanism to oversee the ongoing development in these areas besides fixing responsibilities of officers concerned to ensure the completion of projects as per the given directions.
Badal said that state has initiated development projects of Rs 2200 crore in these villages with a view to provide potable water, well constructed streets, drainage system, roads, street lights, basic amenities as well as modern infrastructure.
He said that the mechanism to be launched by government would also ensure the quality and timely completion of projects.
Describing Punjab as one of the most peaceful state in the country, the Chief Minister said that harmony, peace and development had been the top priority of ruling SAD-BJP alliance and they would again contest the polls on the plank of development.
Answering a query regarding fielding of candidates for 2017 assembly polls, Badal said that SAD would come out with the list of its candidates at an appropriate time. He claimed that defeat of opposition parties is inevitable.
