Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal today hailed Supreme Court's refusal to stay a trial court's order directing CBI to conduct further probe into his alleged role in a 1984 anti-Sikh riots case.
In a joint statement issued here today, the chief minister and Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal said, "It is only right and fair that the apex court has taken note of the 30-year long delay in delivering justice and relief to the victims of the of the 1984 massacre of innocent Sikhs.
"If the government has any conscience, it should read the message in the observation of the apex court highlighting the three-decade-long wait for justice. In these three decades, the guilty have not only been proudly roaming in the streets of Delhi but have even been elevated to the highest portals of power," he said.
Shiromani Akali Dal president Sukhbir said, "The SC's refusal to stay proceedings against Tytler and its observations on the delay in brining the guilty to the book are a resounding slap on the face of those who have been misusing positions of power in the UPA to shield the guilty".
