Alleging that only "wealth matters" for Parkash Singh Badal and his family, Senior Congress leader Amarinder Singh today said it was time for the Chief Minister to make a choice between business and politics.
Citing the Moga molestation case and the Ropar incident, he alleged that the Badals were using political power to promote and protect their business interest.
Amarinder also accused the Chief Minister of trying to do a monetary settlement with the family of the Ropar incident victim.
A scooterist was on Thursday killed in an accident near Ropar toll plaza. Opposition Congress and eyewitnesses alleged that he was hit by a bus owned by the Badal family.
"For how long can you do that, break the law with impunity and then negotiate a deal using your state machinery?" he asked.
"In case of Badal, nothing matters... Neither confidence nor respect of public. What matters for him is wealth and more wealth as his greed still remains unsatiated even after assets and properties worth thousands of crores he accumulated during his political career," he said.
"It is time that he make a choice between business and politics," he said.
Punjab Congress Chief Partap Singh Bajwa also attacked Badal, alleging that a massive cover-up operation was underway to protect their business interests.
"The recently-constituted Special Investigation Team (SIT) was nothing more than a charade to frustrate the course of justice," he said adding that the Punjab Police also defended and gave clean chit to the Badal-owned bus despite evidence to the contrary.
Describing as Badal's "private militia" the SIT and the Punjab Police, Bajwa said "they function to protect and facilitate Badals' business empire".
He also demanded that Badal order a judicial inquiry by a sitting Judge of Punjab and Haryana High Court into various aspects of the Ropar incident, including the reports relating to alleged destruction of evidence at the crime scene.
