Barley up 2.5% on rising domestic demand

May contracts shot up by 2.10%

Barley prices gained 2.55% to Rs 1,205 per quintal in futures trade today as participants created speculative positions following rising domestic demand and positive global cues.

At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, barley for June contracts gained Rs 30, or 2.55%, to Rs 1,205 per quintal, with an open interest of 1,230 lots.

Also, May contracts shot up by Rs 24, or 2.10%, to Rs 1,169 per quintal, having an open interest of 10,580 lots.

Similarly, April contracts also gained Rs 22.50, 1.97%, to Rs 1,165 per quintal, clocking an open interest of 9,970 lots.

Marketmen said apart from rising demand from consuming industries at spot markets, tight supplies also influenced barley prices at futures trade here.

Besides, positive cues from overseas markets influenced trading sentiments, they added.
