Baroda Cricket Association (BCA) president Samarjeetsinh Gaekwad was today suddenly removed from his post by a rival group headed by veteran administrator Chirayu Amin during association's recent AGM.
Members of the faction led by Amin, an ex-BCA President, passed a resolution against Gaekwad after he adjourned the AGM on conclusion of the listed business.
Snehal Parikh, In-charge Secretary of BCA, told PTI that the members present in the AGM were very angry over the manner, in which Gaekwad adjourned the meeting.
So, they submitted a no-confidence motion against Gaekwad to JT Patel, BCA Vice-President (belonging to the Amin group), who was in the chair.
After the AGM was adjourned by Gaekwad, the members present at the meet "unanimously" adopted the motion removing him from the post of President and appointed Patel as his successor, Parikh said.
Patel, after taking charge, approved the account of BCA for the financial year 2013-14 and also appointed auditor for FY15, he said.
Gaekwad said "a number of issues were raised during the three hours of AGM and voting on them had to be conducted through secret ballots as it was difficult to approve the listed agenda by raising of hands by the members present.
"I allowed Sanjay Patel, former Secretary of BCA, and two other office-bearers, Sachin Dalvi and A Gandhi, to attend the AGM as they were listed as members of BCA during 2013-14."
The rival group opposed their presence at the AGM, alleging they were removed from BCA on corruption charges.
Gaekwad said he allowed the trio to attend the meeting as they were members of BCA in 2013-14 and one of the listed businesses pertained to that fiscal year.
Sanjay Patel, also a former Secretary of BCCI, told waiting newspersons outside the venue of the meeting that a large number of persons who are not BCA members attended the AGM and disrupted its proceedings.
Tight security arrangements were made inside and near the hall in Akota area, where the conclave took place.
Amin, former IPL chairman, was defeated by Gaekwad in the election for BCA President a couple of years ago.
