Terming his meeting with West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee as "dream come true", Pakistan High Commissioner to India Abdul Basit today hoped that his country's relation with Bengal would flourish in the future.
Preferring not to be specific about the proposals he had put forward during his 30-minute interaction with the chief minister during his visit to the state secretariat, Basit told reporters, "I have submitted some proposals and we will now follow them through and hopefully relation with West Bengal will flourish in the months ahead."
"I also invited her to visit Pakistan, so let's hope she will visit soon," the Pakistan envoy said.
He also refused to comment on reports that Pakistan's Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) was training 60 young people in Muzaffarabad in the PoK.
"I have come here to meet the honourable chief minister. To have met her was a dream come true for me. So let's just focus on my visit to Kolkata and establishing and developing relation between West Bengal and the provinces in Pakistan. So I will be positive if these questions are discussed," Basit said.
Noting that both India and Pakistan were democratic and federations where federating units (states) have an important role to play towards promoting bilateral relations at all levels and in all spheres, a statement from the Pakistan High Commission had earlier said the visit to Kolkata was aimed at exploring bilateral opportunities and enhancing mutual understanding.
