The BCCI will felicitate the recently-retired Virender Sehwag at his home ground Feroz Shah Kotla tomorrow before the start of the fourth Test match between India and South Africa.
The BCCI has sent an official mail to the DDCA today intimating them about the decision but Sehwag's home state association for 17 years has decided to stay away from the celebrations as of now.
"We have received an e-mail today from the BCCI stating that Virender Sehwag will be felicitated tomorrow at 9 am before the start of the Test match. I don't know but may be the president or the secretary will felicitate him on behalf of the board. DDCA is not a part of the felicitation program," DDCA's working president Chetan Chauhan told PTI today.
With the Parliament in session, BCCI secretary and BJP MP Anurag Thakur is expected to be present along with treasurer Aniruddh Chaudhary.
Sehwag is likely to be presented with a silver plaque commemorating his achievements.
When asked why DDCA is not a part of the felicitation function, Chauhan replied: "Since we have been informed at such a short notice, we don't have enough time to prepare. We will certainly felicitate him in a befitting manner for his immense contribution to Delhi and Indian cricket."
Interestingly, Sehwag left his home state Delhi for Haryana this season allegedly due to some rumoured differences with the Delhi team management. He retired from international cricket in October this year.
