The police said the Block Development Officer Tridib Sar came downstairs from his office and tried to control the mob with a stick.
The locals had gathered at the office of Food Supply department below Sar's office to apply for ration card for those who attained 10 years age and attend a hearing.
Nearly 2000 people gathered and there was a lot of hue and cry. This created problem for the BDO to work and he came down to control them, the police said.
All the injured villagers and BDO were admitted to a local hospital.
A large contingent of policemen were rushed to the spot, sources said.
